American Civilizations

Plains
Location: Plains of United States (from Minnesota/Dakotas to Louisiana)
Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache
The Plain Indians, primarily the Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache, ate mainly bison meat. In general, bison was a major food supply of these tribes. They used the bison skins for clothing and to build houses. It provided good insulation for houses during the winters, especially up north. The Plains Indians were also nomadic. Overall, they followed the bison both as a source of meat and hides to use for their tipis. They used extra bison meat to trade with the Hopi and Zuni in exchange for beautiful pottery and woven blankets, and corn and other farm products. This way, they were able to meddle with other tribes, helping them acquire more and different goods.
