American Civilizations

Mississippi
The Great Serpent Mound (shown at right) in Ohio is an amazing site to see in the Mississippi region, and it has been preserved since the ancient Mississippian river groups. Only a small number of Adena earthen mounds survive today in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The Mississippi River provides ample water and food supplies for surrounding civilizations today. However, many Mississippian River groups are nonexistent today because numerous industries are situated along the Mississippi River. Overall, the ancient sites of the Adena culture have been preserved and serve as great tourist locations today, which bring money to the area.
